Kubernetes initially built volume plugins into the core codebase, resulting in high maintenance costs and limited support. To address these limitations, FlexVolumes helped move storage intelligence out of the core. However, this approach resulted in complicated deployment and dependency management.
Today, Kubernetes supports a robust storage ecosystem via CSI plugins. The Container Storage Interface encourages the development of optimized drivers with standardized management. The Blockbridge CSI-native solution is explicitly designed to work seamlessly with Kubernetes.
